About the Job:

The Facilities Management department is seeking a skilled Carpenter Locksmith II to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. The ideal candidate will bring a keen eye for detail and strong technical skills to accurately interpret blueprints and sketches, ensuring every project is completed with precision, craftsmanship, and with a focus on safety. The selected candidate will play a vital role in fabricating, installing, and repairing wood structures while expertly handling lock installation and maintenance. Their strong problem-solving and communication skills will be essential in thriving in this collaborative environment. 

What You’ll Do:

• Skilled carpentry & Lock Repair: Perform skilled rough and finish carpentry and cabinetry work, including fabrication, installation, and repair of shelves, cabinets, window and door frames, doors, counters, furniture, partitions, and other wood structures. Install and repair various types of locks and related hardware. Prepare walls for plaster or stucco application and repair damage as needed. 
• Plans & Design: Design and interpret construction sketches, blueprints, and technical manuals. Perform job-related calculations and prepare material estimates. 
• Safety & Compliance: Follow safety practices, work methods, and regulations relevant to carpentry and locksmithing. Apply codes and standards related to the trades to complete projects. 
• Collaboration & Communication: Coordinate work with internal stakeholders and maintain effective working relationships. Maintain basic records and reports as required. 
• Equipment Use: Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, jointers, shapers, sanding machines, and drill presses. Use equipment common to both carpentry and locksmith trades. 
• Operational Driving*: Operate and drive Authority vehicles to work sites. Transport tools to job sites.

Requirements

The Experience You Need to Have**:

• Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D; 
• Three years of journey-level rough and finish carpentry experience in the installation and maintenance of doors framing, hardware and locks devices. 
• Or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements :

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy. 
• Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.

Preferred Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), NFPA 80, Certified Registered Locksmith, Facility Locksmith Certification

This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driver’s license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory. Applicants must acknowledge that driving Airport Authority vehicles is an essential function of this role.
