This temporary (16-26 week) Operating Room Nurse position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a Level I trauma center. The role involves providing surgical nursing care across various specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, plastics, urology, and trauma. The position requires on-call responsibilities (approximately once per week), adherence to a 4x10-day schedule (8:45 AM - 7:15 PM), and working one weekend per month. Experience with Cerner charting is preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Providing surgical nursing care across a wide range of specialties (General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology, Plastics, Urology, Trauma).
- Performing a variety of surgical procedures including but not limited to: laparoscopic assisted procedures, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reduction (open and closed), free flap microvascular procedures, organ donation, cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, amputations, management of gunshot/stab wounds and MVA injuries.
- Managing emergency situations including code response, fire safety, latex allergy, and malignant hyperthermia.
- Administering blood products, maintaining infection control, adhering to radiation safety protocols, handling/labeling specimens, and following universal protocol (time-out) procedures.
- Utilizing electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables.
- Performing urinary bladder catheterization.
- Charting in Cerner.
- Working with all service lines except Cardiovascular.
- Performing on-call duties (approximately once per week).
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an Operating Room Nurse.
- Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois (or in the application process).
- BLS certification.
- Experience in a Level I trauma center.
- Experience with general OR and trauma cases.
- Experience with bariatric, general surgery, neurology, orthopedic, plastic surgery, transplant, urology, and trauma cases (specific procedures listed in the input).
- Experience with emergency management, including code response, fire safety, latex allergy, and malignant hyperthermia.
- Proficiency with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables.
- Knowledge of blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, and universal protocol (time-out) procedures.
- Ability to perform urinary bladder catheterization.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CNOR certification.
- CST certification.
- Cerner experience.
Special Considerations:
- 16-26 week temporary assignment.
- 4x10-day schedule (8:45 AM - 7:15 PM).
- One weekend per month required.
- On-call duty approximately once per week.
- All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the manager.
- Client may call off up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay; additional cancellations will be billed.
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility.
- Will work with all service lines except Cardiovascular.
- Level I trauma experience required.
Scheduling:
- 4x10-day shifts (8:45 AM - 7:15 PM).
- One weekend per month.
- On-call approximately once per week.
- No flexibility for block scheduling.
- All time off requests require manager approval.
